French photojournalist Anthony Lallican died in Ukraine
French photojournalist Anthony Lallican died on the morning of October 3 in the Druzhkovka area of Ukraine. He was 37 years old. According to the website of the International Federation of Journalists, the death occurred as a result of a drone strike. This information was confirmed by French President Emmanuel Macron.
"I express my sincere condolences to his family, loved ones and all his colleagues," Macron wrote on his page on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
Grigory Ivanchenko, a journalist and photographer for the Kyiv Independent, was next to Lallikan at the time of the attack, and he was injured.
Lallikan became a photojournalist at the age of 30 and has worked in hot spots around the world, from Kashmir and Nagorno—Karabakh to the Middle East. Since March 2022, he has been covering events in Ukraine. The journalist collaborated with the world's leading publications, was the winner of the Vito Hugo Award for Best photography (2024) and the Grand Prix Paris Match Etudiant (2022).
Earlier, on October 2, it became known that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) banned local journalists from reporting on the shortage of air defense systems and specifying specific geographical data. The restrictions primarily apply to correspondents working on the front line.
