The renovation of the main dome of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior has begun in Moscow. This was announced on Friday, October 3, by the Deputy Mayor of the capital for Housing and Communal Services and landscaping, Peter Biryukov.

He explained that over the years the metal has darkened, spots have appeared and the tightness of the seams has been lost, so it was decided to carry out a comprehensive renovation. The dome cannot be completely disassembled because of the frescoes under it, so the coating is replaced with fragments of new stainless steel sheets with titanium nitride, the service life of which exceeds 50 years, the Moscow City News agency reports.

The work is carried out manually by small teams at an altitude of 80-100 meters. The total weight of the new coating will be about 15 tons. In parallel, a new dome top is being made and the metal coatings of zakomar are being replaced, Moscow 24 writes.

Major repairs of the temple's facades, including all sides of the building, belfries and viewing platforms, have already been carried out.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
