Chicago's $2.1 billion Infrastructure Improvement Plan postponed amid Shutdown
Amid the shutdown in the country, the US authorities temporarily suspended financing of infrastructure projects in Chicago in the amount of $2.1 billion. This was announced on October 3 by Russell Vaught, Director of the White House Office of Administration and Budget.
"It was decided to postpone the allocation of $2.1 billion for infrastructure development in Chicago," Vaught wrote on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
According to him, this decision was made in order to ensure that these funds are not distributed through tenders won on a racial basis.
In the United States, on October 1, the government was suspended. Because of this, non-authorized personnel of federal agencies will be forcibly sent on unpaid leave. At the same time, some will continue to perform their work duties without a salary.
US President Donald Trump said that during his upcoming meeting with Vaught, the possibility of reducing a number of democratic agencies against the background of the shutdown will be discussed.
