Sweden has become a new "unexpected" wine country, while traditional European countries producing the drink are experiencing difficulties with its production and sale. This was reported by Bloomberg on October 3.

"Sweden is another country in the new trend of wines from a cool climate, along with Germany, New Zealand and the state of Oregon," the article says.

The authors of the article note that sales of one of the wine producers in Sweden have increased by 15-20% since last summer, and exports of Swedish wine have increased by 30% since 2020. Sales mainly go to Europe, the USA and Japan, the publication clarifies.

There is also an increase in the number of commercial wineries. According to Bloomberg, the number of enterprises has almost doubled in 10 years and now reaches 40. According to scientists, the country's wine-growing potential is 3-4 thousand hectares.

Earlier, on August 1, Bloomberg learned that the French wine industry could lose €1 billion if the United States imposes a 15 percent import tariff on products. Gabriel Pekar, President of the French Federation of Wine and Spirits Exporters (FEVS), pointed out the need for the French government and the European Union (EU) to support the wine sector.
