Estonia threatened Russia for allegedly violating the country's border

The Estonian authorities have threatened Russia that an alleged violation of its airspace could be met with a response in a completely different area, including at sea. This was announced on October 3 by Estonian Foreign Ministry Secretary Jonathan Vsevolod.

"We're saying that if you do this to us, we won't necessarily react here," The Telegraph quoted him as saying.

In addition, the diplomat noted that Estonia possesses anti-ship missiles with a range of up to 300 km, and also referred to a recent NATO statement about a possible alliance response "at such a time, in such a place and in the area of our choice."

On September 19, the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused the Russian Federation of allegedly having three MiG-31 fighter jets in its airspace.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on September 22 that the words of the Estonian authorities about the alleged violation of Russian airspace were "empty and groundless," and also pointed out that the Russian Defense Ministry had already rejected these statements, as the Russian Armed Forces operate strictly within the framework of international rules.

Later, on September 28, NATO experts investigating the incident involving the alleged appearance of a Russian fighter jet over Estonia did not rule out that the incident could have been accidental.
