Kiev authorities banned the concert of Russian-speaking rappers
A concert of Ukrainian rappers performing in Russian was banned in Kiev. This was announced on October 3 by the head of the military administration of Kiev, Timur Tkachenko.
"Back in 2023, the Kiev City Council imposed a moratorium on the public use of Russian-language cultural products in the territory of the city of Kiev. Therefore, I am proactively contacting law enforcement agencies. There will be no concert," Tkachenko wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to the head of the military administration, the musicians were going to arrange a concert in one of the bars in Kiev. Tkachenko did not specify the names of the rappers or the name of the band.
On October 1, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke out for the right of Russian-speaking residents of Ukraine to speak and learn their native language. According to him, people have an inalienable right to speak their own language and learn their native language.
Prior to that, on September 15, the Language Ombudsman of Ukraine, Elena Ivanovskaya, acknowledged that Kiev remains a Russian-speaking city. In an interview with Glavkom, she commented on the journalist's words that the capital was Russified, calling it "a serious problem, including a philosophical one."
