- The WSJ learned about Ukraine's construction of a defensive belt of fortresses 50 km away in the DPR
On the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) controlled by Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have built a 50 km long defense line. This was reported on October 3 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
It is noted that the main purpose of the fortifications is to prevent the advance of Russian troops.
"Ukraine has created a 31-mile defense line here, known as the fortress belt, to block Russian advance," the article says.
The journalist of the publication, who visited the cities controlled by Kiev on the territory of the DPR, told about the attempts of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to set up barriers against drones. According to her, Ukraine's fortification system is far from perfect and allows Russian drones to strike.
On October 2, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that assault units and gunners of the Ivanovo Guards Airborne Unit from the Southern Group of Forces were continuing their offensive in the DPR, pushing the Ukrainian Armed Forces further towards Konstantinovka from the village of Chasyar. It was clarified that the military personnel had opened the enemy's defense system and carried out a sweep of fortified positions.
