The death toll due to the use of surrogate alcohol in the Leningrad region has increased to 42. This was reported by a source of Izvestia.
Mass alcohol poisoning in the Slantsevsky district became known on September 26. A criminal case was opened into the incident under Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Causing death by negligence"). Later it became known that residents of other districts also died after using the surrogate. The regional Prosecutor's Office reported the arrest of 14 people involved in the distribution of alcohol. More than 5,000 liters of alcohol-containing liquid were seized.
On September 29, the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Irina Volk, reported that the alleged source of counterfeit alcohol, which led to the deaths of people in the Leningrad region, was a commercial organization from the Tosnensky district. Three representatives of the warehouse company were taken into custody.
