Lukashenko suggested Germany to restore relations

On October 3, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko proposed to restore bilateral relations in his congratulatory message to the people of Germany on German Unity Day.

Lukashenko noted that the unification of Germany in 1990 was one of the key moments in the history of modern Europe.

"Despite the tragic consequences of the Second World War, Belarusians and Germans have jointly managed to find ways to reconciliation and cooperation. That experience is still in demand today, and its results should be preserved and strengthened," Lukashenko is quoted as saying on the website of Belarus.

The President also stressed that Belarus has decided to extend the visa-free regime for citizens of the European Union (EU) countries, including Germany. He suggested removing barriers to the restoration of bilateral relations. He acknowledged that it would not be easy in the current situation, but noted that such steps fully correspond to the true interests of both countries and peoples.

Earlier, on September 27, Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov also drew attention to the actions of EU countries on the borders of Russia and Belarus.
