Analysts named the main age audience of cybercriminals
Cyberbullying has become one of the main problems in the Russian Internet space, but scammers are targeting relatively the same audience. Thus, citizens aged 25-39 years account for 32.5% of mentions of cases of deception on social networks. This is evidenced by the monitoring data of the Sidorin Lab (SL) research center for the first half of 2025, which I reviewed. "Газета.Ru ".
According to the study, more than 507 thousand user messages dedicated to online fraud were recorded. Of these, 32.5% are complaints from people aged 25 to 39 years. 31.4% of complaints come from users aged 40-59 years. The remaining age groups account for fewer cybercrimes.
"Today, it is not pensioners at all who are at risk, but economically active citizens, IT specialists and large companies. For scammers, it is not trustfulness that is important, but access to money and data," said Daria Svistunova, CEO of Sidorin Lab.
Basically, scammers attack the websites of government services and departments, posing as a representative of certain government agencies. Telephone cyberbullying, attacks on social networks and instant messengers, crimes related to credit cards and marketplaces are also popular.
It is noted that scammers hit people's human factors: haste, fatigue and overload with notifications.
Earlier, on September 16, Irina Volk, a representative of the Russian Interior Ministry, warned about a fraudulent scheme in which criminals send fake documents or disturbing messages, forcing citizens to urgently call them first. Also, scammers, according to Volk, believe that the person who called them sincerely trusts the interlocutor who offered help and it is much easier to deceive him.
