A smuggler transporting ginseng roots abroad was detained in Ussuriysk.
In Ussuriysk, a 59-year-old man from Central Asia was detained, who bought four ginseng roots, which is included in the Red Book of Russia, and wanted to cross the border with them. This was announced on October 3 by the transport police of the Far East.
"The accused planned to cross the border of the Russian Federation on a passenger bus, hiding a valuable plant in cigarette packs <...>. However, the man was detained at the customs checkpoint," the department's Telegram channel said.
A criminal case was opened on this fact under Part 1 of Article 260.1 ("Intentional destruction or damage to the extent of cessation of growth of especially valuable plants and fungi belonging to species listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation and (or) protected by international treaties of the Russian Federation, as well as illegal extraction, collection, acquisition, storage, transportation, transfer or sale of such plants and fungi, their products, parts and derivatives (derivatives)") and Part 1 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Destruction or damage to forest plantations and other plantings as a result of careless handling of fire or other sources of increased danger, if these acts have caused significant damage").
A preventive measure in the form of detention has been chosen in relation to the foreigner.
Earlier, on September 19, FSB officers, in cooperation with the Federal Customs Service (FCS) of Russia, stopped the smuggling of a 1,750 kg shipment of cocaine from Latin America to the Russian Federation. The estimated value of the seized drugs on the black market is more than 20 billion rubles.
