President of the Republika Srpska (RS, an entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina) Milorad Dodik called his conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Valdai Discussion Club important on October 2.

"President Putin has shown great understanding. I think it was an opportunity to confirm our positions. We are proud that we have such good strategic relations with the Russian Federation," he replied to a question from Izvestia correspondent Viktor Sineok.

Dodik said that he and Putin discussed the situation on the Balkan Peninsula, including in the Republika Srpska. According to him, there is interference by foreign forces in the region. He also appealed to the Russian president with a request to expose at the next meetings of the Security Council the role of "certain Western circles" that encroach on the norms of international law.

"Both Putin and I understand that this is the true face of the West when they talk about the rule of law, especially international law. But they are promoting their own "concepts," the politician added.

Putin and Dodik met in Sochi earlier that day. The leader of Republika Srpska, in turn, noted that he was glad to have the opportunity to attend the Valdai Forum. He also recalled that earlier, on May 9, he attended the Victory Day Parade, which was "impressive."

On September 8, the Russian Foreign Ministry condemned Western attempts to remove Dodik from the political scene by unholy methods. It was noted that the decision of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina to revoke the presidential mandate carries "significant destabilizing potential."
