Honored military pilot, retired Major General Vladimir Popov said that the supply of American Tomahawk and Barracuda missiles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine is unlikely to change the situation on the battlefield: they will be easily detected and hit by Russian air defense systems.

In conversation with aif.ru On Thursday, October 2, Popov explained that Barracuda is an efficient but technologically complex system.: It is capable of flying low, skirting the terrain, and requires satellite correction, ground-based repeaters, and careful maintenance. According to him, in the absence of qualified operators and command posts, such a missile will turn into an ordinary target that can be easily detected and destroyed.

The expert also noted that for the full operation of such systems, the United States would have to send instructors and specialists, which would actually mean direct intervention in the conflict — and, given the lack of time to prepare Ukrainian calculations, deliveries are unlikely to be carried out.

It is noted that the Barracuda is available in several versions: with an aircraft launch, its maximum range reaches approximately 930 km, and it can be used from land, air and offshore platforms.

Earlier in the day, the Wall Street Journal, citing American officials, reported that the United States was considering supplying Ukraine with Tomahawk and Barracuda missiles with a range of about 800 km, but there was no final decision yet.

Also on October 2, British military expert Alexander Mercuris said that even the transfer of Tomahawk would not help the Ukrainian Armed Forces, writes RT. The analyst noted that none of the weapons supplied to Kiev by the Western allies — be it HIMARS MLRS, drones or artillery — has brought significant success to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. 360.ru .

Mercouris stressed that the delivery of these missiles to Ukraine would be a terrible and large-scale escalation, the website reports. kp.ru .

On October 1, Russia's permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, pointed out the inability of Tomahawk missiles to change the situation in favor of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Earlier, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that even if these weapons were transferred to Ukraine, they would not become a "panacea" and would not change the situation on the front line.

On the same day, expert Andrey Koshkin told Regnum news agency that talks about the supply of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine were just a Western PR campaign. He recalled that the SCALP and Storm Shadow had already been transferred to Kiev, but this did not affect the course of hostilities.

On September 26, The Telegraph newspaper, citing sources, reported that at a closed meeting with US President Donald Trump, Vladimir Zelensky asked for the supply of Tomahawk cruise missiles with a range of over 1.6 thousand km to Kiev.
