Russia's response to statements by European leaders about the militarization of Europe will not take long. This was announced on October 2 by Russian President Vladimir Putin during the plenary session of the XXII annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club.

"We are closely monitoring the increasing militarization of Europe. Are these just words, or is it time for us to take retaliatory measures. <...> I think no one doubts that such Russian measures, Russia's retaliatory measures, will not take long to wait," Putin said.

He added that the response to the threats will be very convincing." The Russian leader stressed that it was about the answer.

Putin cited the example of Germany, "which says that the German army should again be the most powerful in Europe."

On September 22, during an operational meeting with members of the Security Council, Putin said that the Russian Federation was ready to respond to threats through military-technical measures. According to him, an example of this is the decision to abandon the unilateral moratorium on the deployment of intermediate-range and shorter-range ground-based missiles.
