Flowers in life: demand for Teacher's Day gifts soared 2.6 times
Sales of gifts for Teacher's Day, which is celebrated on October 5, increased by 160% starting in the second half of September 2025, analysts told Izvestia. Tea sets, perfumes, sweets, mugs and themed postcards are among the leaders. This year, parents of schoolchildren are also twice as likely to buy equipment for teachers for classrooms. At the same time, more than 60% of Russians traditionally give flowers on Teacher's Day. The average cost of a festive bouquet this year will be 3.8 thousand rubles. About how the trends for Teacher's Day gifts have changed and how much Russians are willing to spend on them, see the Izvestia article.
What do they give you for Teacher's Day?
By the end of September 2025, a week before Teacher's Day, the demand for gifts to teachers doubled compared to a week earlier, the Yandex Market press service told Izvestia.
— Most often, customers ordered themed balloons with congratulatory inscriptions, bouquets of dried flowers, sweet gifts — sweets, gingerbread and chocolate, as well as mugs, — they specified.
In the second half of September 2025, sales of Teacher's Day gift sets increased by 160%, Wildberries marketplace analysts added. The demand for tea and coffee sets increased by 71%, and sweets began to be ordered twice as often as at the beginning of autumn.
On the eve of October 5, Russians most often purchased traditional gifts for teachers on marketplaces: holiday sets, beauty products and equipment for school classrooms, the Ozon press service told Izvestia.
— In the last week of September, sales of women's perfumes tripled compared to the same period in 2024, and perfume sets increased 2.5 times. And they started buying gift sets for the holiday twice as often," they said.
Bouquets or indoor plants
More than 60% of Russians give flowers to teachers, market participants told Izvestia. Thus, according to Grodan, a manufacturer of stone wool substrates for growing vegetable and flower crops, which conducted its own research, only 13% of respondents present one bouquet from the entire class, and 5% choose a gift instead of flowers.
"Only a third of the survey participants said they don't give flowers to teachers at all," the company's analysts added.
Among the flowers that parents choose for the Teacher's Day bouquet, roses and autumn national compositions are in the lead, chrysanthemums and lilies are also popular. Gerberas are chosen by only 4% of respondents. When choosing a bouquet, buyers rely on quality, freshness and festive appearance.
— Roses have long secured the status of a national favorite in festive bouquets. Now they are available all year round," said Yuri Ilvachev, agronomist and Key Account Manager at the company.
A fifth of Russians believe that prices for bouquets in October have become significantly higher than in summer, and the choice is more limited, experts said.
In 2025, the average cost of a bouquet for Teacher's Day will be 3.8 thousand rubles, said Veronika Peretyagina, head of the department for attracting and supporting sellers at Flowwow. According to the survey results, the majority of teachers like roses, bouquets and lilies. At the same time, a third of the teachers do not care which flowers they receive as a gift.
— Dahlia season is in September and October. In 2025, the demand for these flowers is increasing: they are presented in the monobook format or added to composite compositions," Veronika Peretyagina said.
Indoor plants are also given as an alternative to bouquets for Teacher's Day. Florariums, decorative mini—gardens in glass, have been particularly popular in recent years. Such a gift will cost an average of 4.7 thousand rubles. In addition, teachers are often given indoor orchids. The average cost of a flower is just over 4 thousand rubles, the expert said.
A year ago, the demand for bouquets on the eve of Teacher's Day turned out to be 42% higher than the average in October, Veronika Peretyagina noted. According to her, French roses with inverted petals and hydrangeas were most often given to teachers back then. Compositions with peony-shaped roses, dianthus and chrysanthemums were also in demand.
How much are parents willing to spend on a gift
Russians are ready to spend about 3 thousand rubles on gifts for Teacher's Day, Avito analysts said. Parents of schoolchildren most often present flowers, certificates of interest, sweets and stationery to teachers. At the same time, young people prefer more practical gifts.
"I went to cosmetics stores, cinemas or bookstores — there are many options,— Larisa, a schoolboy's mother from Nizhny Novgorod, wrote on social media. — My former classmate works as a teacher. She is constantly given sweets, tea sets and diaries. She's happy, of course, but there are so many of them that she doesn't have time to eat or write them all down.
According to analysts, only one out of ten respondents does not congratulate their child's teachers on Teacher's Day. Most give gifts to the homeroom teacher and their favorite subject teachers. But one in five believes that it is necessary to present a gift to each of the teachers.
At the same time, according to the article of the Civil Code "On the prohibition of giving", the cost of a gift to a teacher should not exceed 3 thousand rubles. In September 2025, Yaroslav Nilov, head of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs, noted in his Telegram channel that this restriction had long been outdated and "had not been observed for a long time, since flower prices, especially during periods of high demand, increase significantly."
According to Avito, in almost 40% of Russian schools, students organize a concert for Teacher's Day, in a third of educational institutions they hold a self-government day and organize thematic class hours. And in every fourth school there is a tea party for children and teachers.
