Former KHL player Karalakhti was detained in Finland
Former defender of Dinamo Minsk Fonbet club of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), Yere Karalakhti, was detained in Helsinki on suspicion of committing a serious drug crime. This was reported on October 2 by the public broadcaster Yle.
"According to the district court, the hockey player is suspected of a crime committed in Helsinki. Charges in the case must be filed before January 15, 2026. The police are continuing their investigation," the article says.
The hockey player's lawyer Mikko Ruuttunen did not specify the reason for the alleged crime, the athlete himself denies his guilt.
In July 2007, a court found Karalakhti guilty of purchasing 10,000 euros worth of drugs in Estonia, and he was sentenced to one year and eight months of probation, Yle reports.
Earlier, on September 24, the French newspaper Le Dauphine Liberty reported that ten-time biathlon world champion Julia Simon will appear in court on charges of theft and fraud. According to the publication, in 2023, the biathlete was detained on suspicion of using other people's bank cards to make purchases in online stores during the Blinkfestivalen ski and roller festival in Norway in 2022. It is specified that the damage is estimated at € 1-2 thousand.
