Sales of new passenger cars in Russia decreased by 19% in September

By the end of September this year, 122.7 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 18.7% less than in the same month of 2024. This is stated in the message of the analytical agency Autostat, which was received by Izvestia on October 3.

The domestic Lada brand retains its leadership in the Russian market by a significant margin with a result of 26.4 thousand cars sold. Its market share in early autumn exceeded 21% of the total volume, a year ago it exceeded the mark of 23%.

Among foreign brands, Haval was again the best in terms of sales, with 16.7 thousand units sold in the first month of autumn. Geely is on the third line (9741 units), followed by the Belarusian brand Belgee (8346 units). Chery closes the top five with an indicator of 8023 cars sold.

Changan (5865 units), Solaris (4028 units), Toyota (3308 units), Omoda (3182 units) and Jetour (3087 units) also made the top ten in September. It is noteworthy that the Japanese brand, which does not officially supply its cars in Russia, is already among the top ten in the country's market. for the second month in a row.

Seven brands out of the top 10 show negative dynamics in September, most clearly it is observed at Chery and Changan, whose sales have halved. Toyota (+48.8%), Solaris (+102%) and Belgee (+128.2%) recorded market growth.

In just nine months of 2025, 895.9 thousand new passenger cars were sold in the Russian Federation. This is 22.4% less than in January – September last year. Positive dynamics were recorded for Toyota, Solaris, Belgee and Jetour, Omoda and Geely sank the most.

On September 30, it was reported that, as Anton Alikhanov, head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, said, passenger cars of more than 20 brands are currently being produced in Russia, and about 50 models have been put on the assembly line.

Also on that day, it became known that from January to August 2025, 424.7 thousand new passenger cars of 64 Chinese brands were registered in Russia. 34 brands supply their products officially, have dealer networks in Russia and guarantee cars. The cars of the remaining 30 brands were imported into the country under the alternative import scheme.
