- The United States reported on the Senate's decision to reject the completion of the shutdown
The US Senate has again rejected plans to resume funding for the federal government, which preserves the shutdown and intensifies the intraparty split, The Washington Post reported on October 2.
Democrats insist on maintaining subsidies for healthcare, but Republicans demand that the government reopen first.
"I would like Republicans to commit to working with us on healthcare, but a deal has to be a deal," Democratic Senator Tim Kaine said.
Republican Senator John Barrasso noted that "Democrats are well aware of the need to open the government."
Most lawmakers do not expect a breakthrough in the coming days, the newspaper notes, as Congress missed a scheduled vote due to the Jewish religious holiday of Yom Kippur, when many Jewish members of parliament are not working. This means that it will not be possible to formally make a decision on the completion of the shutdown by the end of the week.
"If this drags on for a few more days or, God forbid, for another few weeks, we will have to lay off people. <...> In some places we will have to save money so that essential services are not cut off in other places," said US Vice President Jay Dee Vance.
In the United States, on October 1, the government was suspended (shutdown). Because of this, non-authorized personnel of federal agencies will be forcibly sent on unpaid leave. At the same time, some will continue to perform their work duties without a salary.
On October 2, US President Donald Trump announced that during his upcoming meeting with the director of the country's Office of Administration and Budget, Russell Vaught, the possibility of reducing a number of democratic agencies against the background of the shutdown would be discussed.
