The global market of radiopharmaceuticals used for cancer diagnosis will grow from 10 to more than $13 billion by 2029. This was announced on October 2 by the scientific director of the Scientific and Educational Medical Center for Nuclear Medicine of the Kurchatov Institute, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergey Deev.

"In 2024, the market for diagnostic drugs amounted to about $10 billion. That's a big number. In 2029, it will amount to more than $13 billion," Deev said at an open meeting of the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences "Life Sciences" in TASS, dedicated to global trends in anti—cancer radiopharmaceuticals.

According to the scientist, the Asia-Pacific region is the fastest growing market for radiopharmaceuticals, and North America is the largest.

The academician recalled that cancer ranks second after cardiovascular diseases in terms of mortality in Russia. One of the factors influencing these statistics was the increase in life expectancy, Deev added.

Andrei Kaprin, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and chief oncologist at the Russian Ministry of Health, said on September 16 that prostate cancer in men and breast cancer in women are the most common cancers among the Russian population. He also stressed that the most common form of cancer in the Russian Federation is skin cancer.
