- The IAEA announced the restoration of external power supply to the sarcophagus at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant
The external power supply to the sarcophagus at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (ChNPP) has been restored. This was announced on October 2 by the press service of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on its page on the social network X (former. Twitter).
"The external power supply of the New Safe Confinement (NBK) at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was restored today at 08:33 a.m. (coincides with Moscow time. — Ed.) — 16 hours after its loss due to damage at the Slavutych electrical substation," the publication says.
The agency's press service also quotes the words of the head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi. He stressed that this event highlights the risks of nuclear safety during a military conflict.
The day before, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine announced that there had been a power outage at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant for a new sarcophagus installed above the destroyed fourth power unit. It is noted that the Chernobyl nuclear power plant "was in a blackout." Later, the IAEA announced the restoration of power supply at the station.
