- The Kremlin pointed out the lack of a US reaction to Putin's proposal on the START Treaty
There was no reaction from the United States to the proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the Treaty on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms (START Treaty). This was announced on October 2 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
He also clarified that contacts between the administrations of the Russian Federation and the United States are proceeding through working channels.
On September 27, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that Putin's proposal to maintain restrictions on the START Treaty would create conditions to avoid a strategic arms race. According to him, Russia has already received the first reaction from the United States to the proposal to continue to comply with the START Treaty restrictions for another year. So, the official representative of the White House said that it was very interesting, and the American leader Trump would definitely comment on it.
On September 22, Putin announced Russia's readiness to adhere to the restrictions under the START Treaty for another year after February 5, 2026. He added that the measure would become viable provided that the United States did not take steps that would undermine the balance of deterrence capabilities.
