Assets in circulation: the court recognized Shtengelov as an extremist and confiscated his property
The Moscow Tver Court, following a lawsuit filed by the Prosecutor General's Office, decided to convert property belonging to the owner of the Kiriyoshki and Yashkino brands Denis Shtengelov, his father Nikolai and his common-law wife Maria Karzhilova into state income. In addition, the court recognized Denis and Nikolai Shtengelov as members of an extremist association. Details can be found in the Izvestia article.
Seizure of assets and charges by the Prosecutor General's Office
The Tverskoy District Court of Moscow, at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office, recognized businessman Denis Shtengelov and his father Nikolai as an extremist association. The court turned the shares of the KDV Group holding, which owns the brands Kiriyoshki, Yashkino, Babkin Seeds, Calve, Three Crusts, Baltimore, Chipsons and others, into state income.
The total value of assets, according to the prosecutor's office, amounted to 497 billion rubles. The lawsuit claimed that the owners received income in Russia, but transferred more than 21 billion rubles abroad, and these funds were used to support the economies of the United States and Australia, which supplied weapons to Ukraine.
The prosecutor's office also insisted that Nikolay Shtengelov had been providing assistance to the Ukrainian side since 2014, and his son had been supplying Ukrainian formations with food and goods.
Denis Shtengelov's lawyer, Alexander Perfilov, submitted written objections, stressing that his client did not finance the Armed Forces of Ukraine and had never made hostile statements against Russia.
He noted that Shtengelov himself is under the personal sanctions of the President of Ukraine and is listed in the Peacekeeper database as a person subject to immediate arrest, which excludes the possibility of assistance from his side.
The defense also pointed out that Shtengelov does not communicate with his father, Mykola Shtengelov, a citizen of Ukraine, because of a conflict over money and that they have been in legal disputes since 2014. A representative of the KDV Group said at the meeting that the company had invested in the construction and modernization of enterprises, systematically developing the Russian economy.
Who is Denis Shtengelov?
Denis Shtengelov first entered the Forbes global list in 2023 with a fortune of $1.3 billion, and in 2025 he took 98th place in the ranking of Russian billionaires with a capital of $1.4 billion. By the end of 2024, for the first time, he was among the largest personal income tax payers in the country (1.5 billion rubles).
In the past, Shtengelov was a co-owner of the Winter Cherry shopping center in Kemerovo, where a fire broke out in 2018 that claimed the lives of 60 people. Later, he transferred 192 million rubles to the families of the victims.
Now the businessman lives in Australia with his family. His father Nikolay was engaged in business in Tomsk from 1995 to 2005, then conducted business in Ukraine: he headed an agricultural enterprise, and from 2016 to 2018 was a deputy of the district council from the Agrarian Party of Ukraine.
The owner of the brands "Moskovskaya" and "Stolichnaya" supported the Ukrainian Armed Forces
This is not the first time that a businessman has been recognized as a member of an extremist association. Earlier, businessman Yuri Shefler and two Luxembourg companies owned by him, Amber Beverage Group Holding and Stoli Group, were included in the Russian list of terrorists and extremists. Rosfinmonitoring announced this on December 10, 2024.
In July of the same year, the Tambov District Court, at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, decided to convert the property of Schefler, the owner of the Moskovskaya and Stolichnaya vodka brands, into state revenue. The prosecutor's office claimed that he supported the Ukrainian Armed Forces. At the end of August, the Federal Bailiff Service announced the completion of the transfer of assets.
Shortly before this decision, the rights to use the Moskovskaya and Stolichnaya brands in the Benelux countries were sold for €1.6 million to Spirits International at an auction in The Hague. This company is part of the SPI Group, a group associated with Scheffler.
