Russians warned about the dangers of bracelets with chips
Silicone wristbands with RFID chips, which are widely used in schools, fitness clubs, transportation and resorts, can be potentially dangerous for users. Alexander Mikhalev, a lecturer at the Department of Chemistry and Technology of Elastomer Processing at RTU MIREA, warned about this on Wednesday, October 1.
According to the expert, the main problem lies in the quality of silicone, which is not always designed for permanent skin contact.
"The approximate turnover of 10 million such bracelets in the country is not only a matter of convenience, but also a significant risk to health, especially for children," Mikhalev said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
He believes that the main problem lies in the lack of certification of such products as products that come into contact with the skin.
Mikhalev urged Russians to be attentive. He added that products made of technical silicone that are dangerous to the skin may be indicated by a low price, a persistent chemical odor, stickiness and the inability of the bracelet to regain its shape after severe stretching.
On September 9, Associate Professor of the Department of Biotechnology and Industrial Pharmacy, Candidate of Chemical Sciences Alexey Panov said that silicone and rubber bracelets for smart watches can cause allergic reactions or contact dermatitis, Moscow 24 reports.
Earlier, in May, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that Muscovites and guests of the capital use products with RFID chips every day when paying for public transport in the city.
He added that Moscow enterprises supply the domestic market with a range of innovative import-substituting products, including smart tags, tags and smart cards.
