The expert compared the safety of popular types of lamps
Alexey Yurasov, Doctor of Physico-Mathematical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Nanoelectronics at RTU MIREA, compared different types of lamps on Wednesday, October 1.
According to the expert, there are no toxic components in the composition of LED lamps. He added that LED lights provide light as close to natural as possible.
"Unlike them, fluorescent lamps contain mercury vapor and require strict disposal according to legal regulations. Incandescent and halogen lamps easily break when falling from a height of up to a meter or with a slight mechanical impact, and when vibrating, the filament can be damaged," the professor explained in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
Yurasov named a way to check the color rendering quality of the lamp. To do this, take a sheet of white paper and a colored felt-tip pen of rich red color. If the shades go to gray or yellowish tones, then it is better to abandon such a lamp.
In June, Sergey Kolunov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Construction and Housing and Communal Services, advised Russian citizens to replace incandescent light bulbs with energy-saving ones. He noted that thanks to this, it is possible to save on electricity several times, RT reports.
Earlier, in March, Pyotr Biryukov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing and Communal Services and Landscaping, said that the number of LED lights in the capital's lighting had reached almost 55%, the Moscow City News agency reports.
In turn, environmentalist Anton Yastrebtsev said that fluorescent lamps can negatively affect the human body. According to the expert, fluorescent lamps, long tubes, are the most dangerous in terms of mercury vapor poisoning. Energy-saving spiral-shaped lamps are less dangerous, but they and halogen lamps also contain mercury vapor.
