US Vice President Jay Dee Vance said he did not expect a prolonged shutdown in the country, as the moderate Democrats were "already starting to lose ground." He announced this on October 1 at a briefing to reporters at the White House.

"To be honest, I don't think it will be a long shutdown. This is just a guess by the US vice president, because it seems to me that we are already seeing signs that moderate Democrats are starting to lose ground," Vance said.

According to him, a number of representatives of the Democratic Party understand the fundamental illogic of the current events. He stressed that the American government will do everything possible to ensure that people continue to receive the necessary services.

"We will do everything necessary to ensure that basic services for the American people continue to work," the US Vice president added.

The day before, the government was suspended in the United States due to the lack of coordination of the draft budget. Because of this, non-authorized personnel of federal agencies will be forcibly sent on unpaid leave. At the same time, some will continue to perform their work duties without a salary.

Later, on October 1, Ekaterina Kosareva, managing partner of the analytical agency VMT Consult, told Izvestia that the shutdown in the United States does not pose a serious threat to the country's economy, but undermines confidence in the political system. According to her, this event indicates a split between Congress and the White House, which is manifested in their inability to reach an agreement on key issues such as the budget.
