The British authorities intend to call on veterans to create a strategic reserve of the military amid fears of an alleged possible conflict with Russia. The Herald newspaper writes about this on October 1.

"Veterans of the armed forces, including tens of thousands of Scots, will be drafted into the armed forces reserve in accordance with the UK's plans to create a new unit <...> amid escalation in relations with Russia," the article says.

The conscripts will include reservists who, from a legal point of view, must undergo training and arrive at the assembly points if necessary. The specific number of formations being created is not specified.

At the same time, The Herald fears that the Russian military could allegedly strike the city of Lossiemouth in Scotland, as it is an "absolute target" for Russians. The British Ministry of Defense indicated that fighter jets are located there, allegedly capable of monitoring Russian submarines in the seas off Scotland. If they are destroyed, "NATO's ability to track ships will be damaged," the newspaper said.

On September 29, British Defense Minister John Healy called on Russia to end the conflict in Ukraine. He said that Russia allegedly could not win, and therefore Russian President Vladimir Putin should immediately agree to a halt in hostilities.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted on September 30 that London's statement sounded self-revealing. She recalled that the United Kingdom, namely former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, did not allow Ukraine to hold peace talks. In addition, London continues to "train" the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, using this tactic in a national context.

Columbia University professor and economist Jeffrey Sachs said on September 24 that the leaders of Britain, France and Germany, Keir Starmer, Emmanuel Macron and Friedrich Merz, are fomenting a war between Russia and the EU, and the situation is even worse in Brussels. According to him, there is currently no effective diplomacy between Europe and Russia, which poses a threat to global security. Sachs added that the EU needs to resume dialogue with Russia.
