The Ministry of Industry and Trade has approved the first list of 20 cars for taxi work starting in 2026

The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation has presented the first list of vehicles approved for use as taxis in accordance with the new localization law. This was announced on October 1 in the press service of the department.

"We are publishing a primary list of vehicles that meet the requirements of the law on taxi localization. More than 20 models from six Russian brands fall under the criteria of the developers of the bill," reads a statement posted on the page of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia in the Max messenger.

It is noted that the list includes Lada, UAZ, Sollers, Evolute, Voyah and Moskvich cars. According to the ministry, the new regulations will take effect on March 1, 2026 and will apply to cars included in regional passenger taxi registers.

In addition, the press service added that the list is not final and will be supplemented with new domestic models, as well as cars, the production of which will be localized in Russia under special investment contracts.

Earlier, on September 25, AvtoVAZ announced that taxi industry participants receive a number of advantages from purchasing Lada cars instead of foreign cars.

Prior to that, on September 16, it was reported that due to the law on taxi localization, which will come into force in the spring of 2026, about 200 thousand drivers (20% of the total number) may leave the industry. This assessment is given in the minutes of the meeting of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP) on the localization of taxi cars.
