The idea of rescheduling the start of school lessons at nine in the morning can bring noticeable benefits to children. Maria Todorova, a child and family psychologist, child development consultant and neuropsychologist, told about this on October 1.

"From about 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., the child has a maximum engagement time, a higher level of attention and a better memory function. This happens due to the fact that the child is raised to school quite early, and only by this time period the brain begins to work more actively. If you start studying too early or wake up the child right before leaving the house, then the first lessons are often wasted, the child has not really woken up yet," Todorova explained.

The neuropsychologist noted that postponing the start of classes also helps to reduce stress levels. Children who are raised too early are more likely to complain of fatigue and headaches, cope worse with stress and lose interest in learning faster.

At the same time, the solution has a downside. Many parents work from eight in the morning and are used to bringing their child to school by 7:30-7:50 in order to get to work. If classes start later, families will be faced with the question of where and with whom the child will be before the first lesson.

"Schools may have to think about some kind of morning supervision system or clubs to support families who find it difficult to adjust their usual schedule. Without this, postponing the start time of lessons can become a source of new conflicts and inconveniences in families," the neuropsychologist emphasized.

According to Todorova, the very idea of making school mornings softer and more gentle is fully justified, but it is important that, along with changing the schedule, the government and schools offer parents solutions that make it easier to adapt to the new schedule.

On September 25, Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, said that in Russia there is a need for radical changes in the educational process, taking into account the introduction of artificial intelligence. According to him, AI represents a huge challenge for education.
