The Iraqi Shafaq news agency clarified that the Ain al-Asad base will be permanently closed on September 15.

In September 2024, the United States and Iraq signed an agreement on the withdrawal from the country of the forces of the international coalition led by the United States involved in the fight against the Islamic State (IS, ISIL, a terrorist organization banned in Russia).
