Running is one of the most affordable and effective ways to maintain health and prolong an active life starting at the age of 30. It has a complex effect on the body, improving the functioning of the cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous and other systems.
"Regular quiet running, even 2-3 times a week, reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke by 30-50%. Running improves vascular elasticity, lowers blood pressure and LDL cholesterol levels," the doctor explained.
According to him, running also increases life expectancy, supports cognitive functions and serves as a prevention of depression.
"Physical activity stimulates the production of BDNF (brain neurotrophic factor), which is responsible for the growth and survival of neurons. Running helps fight anxiety, improves sleep, and reduces the risk of dementia in old age," the doctor concluded.
The specialist also noted that studies of telomeres (chromosome capsules) show: in people who run regularly, cells age more slowly.
"Runners live an average of 3-4 years longer. The most important thing is that it's never too late to start running. Even people who started running in their 40s and 50s get significant health benefits," he concluded.
Earlier, on September 30, Ekaterina Tur, a psychosomatologist, spoke about the impact of hugs on a person's life. She noted that hugs trigger not just an emotional reaction, but a cascade of biochemical processes.
