Russia became the Chairman of the UN Security Council
Russia has become the chairman of the UN Security Council (SC) when the organization celebrates its 80th anniversary. This became known on October 1.
It is noted that Russia will assume the presidency of South Korea and in one calendar month will transfer powers to Sierra Leone. The last time the Russian Federation coordinated the work of the UN Security Council was in July 2024.
Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, is due to present a work program at a press conference for journalists at the organization's headquarters soon.
According to the TASS news agency, the chairman's functions will also include coordinating decisions on unscheduled meetings of the UN Security Council, as well as resolving issues on a point of order.
The UN Security Council is one of the five main organs of the organization. The United Kingdom, China, Russia, the United States and France are among its permanent members. At the same time, 10 non-permanent members are elected for two years.
