- The IAEA reported on Grossi's cooperation with the Russian Federation and Ukraine on the nuclear power plant
Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), is cooperating with Russia and Ukraine on the issue of restoring external power supply to the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). This was announced on September 30 in a statement on the organization's website.
"I am in constant contact with both sides to ensure that the plant is reconnected to the power grid as soon as possible," Grossi said.
He added that the power plant is currently coping thanks to the operation of emergency diesel generators. According to Grossi, in the event of a potential nuclear accident at the facility, neither side will benefit.
The ministry clarified that eight power units are currently in operation at the NPP, nine additional power units are in reserve, and three are under repair.
Earlier, on September 27, the NPP announced a sufficient supply of diesel fuel for the operation of the plant. It is specified that all systems that ensure the life of the plant are functioning normally and are powered by backup energy sources. In addition, the radiation situation on the territory of the Zaporizhia NPP and the surrounding area remains within the normal range.
On September 23, Evgenia Yashina, Director of Communications at the ZAES, announced that the plant had been disconnected from the last external power supply line that supplied it. She added that the station has now been switched to backup power from diesel generators. According to her, there are enough fuel reserves for backup power supply at the nuclear power plant.
