Trump announced the possible suspension of the US government
US President Donald Trump said that a possible government shutdown could be a way to get rid of a number of "democratic things" that, according to him, the country does not need. He told reporters at the White House on September 30.
"The Democrats want to shut everything down. And when you close something, you have to lay off. Although during the shutdown, you can get rid of a lot of things that we don't need," Trump stressed.
Meanwhile, the US Department of Transportation announced that in the event of a shutdown, the civil aviation agency will send 11,000 employees on unpaid leave. Another 13,000 air traffic controllers will continue to work, but without salaries.
Earlier, on September 30, Trump said that a government shutdown was "likely, but not inevitable." He linked the risk of its onset to the Democrats' health policy and warned of possible negative consequences for medicine and social benefits.
