- The political scientist explained the reasons for the West's provocations with tankers against Russia.
The provocations of Western countries against tankers allegedly transporting Russian oil may indicate the desire of these states to fix their own economic problems at the expense of other people's resources. Vasily Koltashov, head of the Center for Political Economic Research, told Izvestia about this on September 30.
"This is part of a big economic war that the West is waging against Russia. This war has strictly defined goals. They are to fix the economic situation in the West," he explained.
According to him, at the expense of Russian resources, Western countries are trying to make their economies efficient again. The expert stressed that "this is a purely colonial conflict in their traditions."
As Koltashov pointed out, there will be more such provocations and incidents with the courts in the future.
Earlier in the day, the French Navy detained the Benin-flagged oil tanker Boracay, which allegedly transported Russian oil in circumvention of sanctions. An investigation was launched into the vessel because the crew allegedly failed to provide evidence of the vessel's nationality and "failed to comply with orders." It is specified that sanctions of the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom were imposed on the tanker in October 2024 and February 2025.
