President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called the situation at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) critical. He stated this on September 30 in his Telegram channel.

"For the seventh day now — by the way, this has never happened — an emergency situation has been established at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. The situation is critical," the message says.

The Ukrainian leader stressed that the NPP is powered by diesel generators, which were not designed for long-term operation.
