- The Guardian reported on the ineffectiveness of the EU's policy of pressure on Belarus
The European Union (EU) has expressed an opinion about the ineffectiveness of the policy of "maximum pressure" on Belarus. This was reported on September 30 by The Guardian newspaper, citing sources.
"Preliminary discussions are underway in Brussels on whether the EU's policy of isolating Belarus remains effective. <...> Belarus has also declared its openness to negotiations," the publication says.
It is noted that the EU has failed to achieve its goals within the framework of pressure. In addition to strengthening relations between the Republic of Belarus and Russia, there has been closer cooperation between President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and American President Donald Trump.
"Some in Washington see Lukashenko as a potential interlocutor with [Russian President] Vladimir Putin on ending the conflict in Ukraine," the newspaper added.
Earlier in the day, Kellogg announced that the United States was in contact with Belarus to communicate its position on Ukraine. He added that for the same reason, the United States was involved in the process of releasing several prisoners in Belarus.
