- Reuters has learned about the official approval by the EU of the 19th package of sanctions against Russia
The European Union (EU) on Thursday, October 23, officially approved the 19th package of anti-Russian sanctions. This was reported by the Reuters news agency with reference to the representative of Denmark in the EU.
Meanwhile, on October 16, former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl drew attention to the fact that, despite Europe's aggressive policy, it remains dependent on Russia's energy carriers. In addition, she stressed that European countries such as France, the Netherlands and Belgium continue to import large amounts of liquefied natural gas.
On September 22, France reported that the EU had agreed with the United States on the 19th package of anti-Russian sanctions. On September 19, the European Commission clarified that these measures would include a ban on investments in Russian special economic zones (SEZs) related to the conflict in Ukraine. It was also proposed to introduce a complete ban on the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Russian Federation by January 2027.
On September 19, the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, announced the EU's intention to impose restrictions against the Russian Mir payment system. According to EC President Ursula von der Leyen, the new package of EU sanctions against Russia will affect cryptocurrencies, banks and the energy sector.
On September 17, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, drew attention to the fact that such a policy harms the EU itself. In turn, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on September 18 that he saw no problems in applying new sanctions against Russia.
