The Indian kalao, the largest bird of the genus of two—horned rhinoceros birds, escaped from the Leningrad Zoo, the 78 portal reports. The staff began searching for the rare feathered bird in hot pursuit.

The zoo's press service reported that an unforeseen incident occurred during the transfer of animals to a winter residence.

"During the planned procedure for the transfer of our pets from summer enclosures to winter ones, a large Indian kalao flew away in the direction of Alexander Park," they said.

It is specified that Kalao will not survive in freedom. Now the thermophilic feathered bird is threatened by frosts, as well as lack of food. The staff asked residents to immediately call and clarify its location when they found the bird, which is difficult not to recognize by its contrasting black and white plumage.

According to media reports, the townspeople have already reported that they noticed a pet measuring more than a meter high in a tree. In order to get him to come down, the ornithologists turned on a recording with the sound of kalao's voice.

In August, it was reported that a lion had escaped from a private zoo near Prague. At the same time, the animal attacked the caretaker. Upon arriving at the scene, the police had to use their service weapons and neutralize the predator. The keeper, who was injured in the attack of the animal, was assisted.
