Moskvich Automobile Plant launches research and development center

Moskvich Automobile Plant has launched its own research and development (R&D) center, and more than 60 engineers are already working in the new division. This is stated in the message of the capital's enterprise, which was received by Izvestia on September 30.

The R&D Center develops technologies aimed at improving the comfort, safety and efficiency of cars. Other areas of work include localization of production and adaptation of cars to Russian climatic and road conditions. In parallel, work is underway on certification and homologation issues.

"Opening our own research and development center is the foundation for Moskvich's future. We are focused on creating cars that meet the modern expectations of Russian customers: reliable, comfortable and adapted to our conditions," said Igor Boytsov, Chief Operating Officer of the Moskvich plant.

Earlier, on September 3, it was reported that sales of Moskvich cars in Russia in August 2025 decreased by 42% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 1,124 units. In total, from January to August, Moskvich sold 9960 cars, the market share remained at the level of last year.

On July 22, sales of the Moskvich 8 crossover started in Russia. The basic version of the model was estimated at 2.98 million rubles. At the average performance level, the crossover costs from 3.21 million rubles, and at the maximum — from 3.37 million rubles. This is the fourth model of the revived brand after crossovers with indexes 3 and 3e, as well as liftback 6. In a month since the start of sales of the new model, Moskvich has sold 24 such crossovers.
