US President Donald Trump's plan for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in the Gaza Strip may have only a temporary effect. This opinion was shared with Izvestia on September 30 by orientalist, international political scientist Elena Ostanina.

The orientalist stressed that it is quite difficult to resolve the Palestinian problem. Therefore, in Washington, in her opinion, they do not expect more, assuming a brief, vivid "show effect."

"The Americans could have put pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Reluctantly, he pretends that he is ready to fulfill the terms of the plan. Therefore, the plan looks very fragile and difficult to execute on both sides. Both the Israelis and the Palestinians have distrust of this project and an unwillingness to implement it," Ostanina said.

According to the political scientist, even if the Trump plan is adopted, the agreement can be disrupted by both Israel and Palestine. In this case, the fighting will resume, which may lead to a destabilization of the situation in the West Bank of the Jordan River.

On September 29, the White House presented a plan to resolve the situation in Gaza. The 20-point document provides for the withdrawal of Israeli troops and the cessation of hostilities in exchange for the release of hostages. 72 hours are allowed for the implementation of these conditions after the approval of the agreement.

A number of Arab and Islamic States, including Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, expressed their support for the peace plan in a joint statement.
