The Board of Directors of the Central Bank (CB) approved the design of the updated banknote in denominations of 1 thousand rubles. This was announced on September 30 by the Chairman of the Central Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina.

She also noted that experts had selected 16 symbols of the North Caucasus Federal District (NCFD) and five symbols of Pyatigorsk for the image on the new 500-ruble bill.
