Singer Alla Pugacheva has retained the rights to her songs in Russia and will be able to earn income from their use. This was reported on September 30 by RIA Novosti with reference to the register of works by Russian copyright holders.

According to the source, Pugacheva is the composer of more than 140 songs and the author of more than 40 lyrics. In 22 cases, she is listed as both the author and the composer. In total, the singer owns the rights to 166 songs.

Lawyer Irina Ostapchuk explained that the artist can receive payments for the performance of her songs by other musicians through the Russian Society of Authors (RAO).

"For the public performance of Pugacheva's songs, it is enough to pay remuneration to the RAO (Russian Copyright Society — Ed.), and they will then transfer the remuneration to her," she said.

Alexander Treshchev, a lawyer and a veteran of military operations in Afghanistan, said on September 15 that he had filed a lawsuit against Pugacheva to recover 1.5 billion rubles in compensation for moral damage. It is noted that the reason for the appeal to the court was the statements of the actress in an interview where she positively described the first president of the self-proclaimed Chechen Republic of Ichkeria (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) Dzhokhar Dudayev, who was liquidated in 1996.

Later, on September 24, the Savyolovsky District Court of Moscow dismissed the lawsuit against Pugacheva. It is specified that the claim will be accepted for production when the applicant eliminates the shortcomings in the paperwork.
