Storytelling is one of the most important skills in the age of social media. And it would be nice if someone else could do this job for us. And if you don't do it, then at least help. Huawei tried to create such an assistant: the nova 14 Pro smartphone is quite capable of telling your stories through photos. The model has an ultra—realistic lens and a 50 MP front lens with high-speed shooting support, which provide incredible portrait quality. Izvestia was one of the first to test the new product and is ready to tell you what Huawei actually did.

Who is suitable for a new smartphone?

Huawei nova 14 Pro is aimed at users aged 25 to 35 years: young professionals, representatives of creative industries and office workers who strive to combine functionality, visual quality and technological aesthetics. The audience of this model is white—collar workers with steady income, accustomed to high-quality digital products and well aware of the value of modern content, especially in the format of visual stories. It is for them that the nova 14 Pro was created — a smartphone that not only captures the moment, but helps to tell stories.

The key idea of the model is contained in the slogan "Pro—level Portraits" - and this is not an advertising stamp, but a reflection of the basic philosophy of the device. For the first time in the line, the Nova 14 Pro received a lens for ultra—realistic shooting: color accuracy increased by 120%, spatial resolution increased by 150,000 times, and the system has 1.5 million spectral channels. This gives an extraordinary depth and detail of the frame, especially in portrait photography, where it is important to preserve the natural skin tone and fine nuances of emotions.

What's with the nova 14 Pro camera?

The front—facing camera is another focus placed at the center of the user experience. In the nova 14 Pro, it is dual: a 50 MP ultra lens with autofocus and an additional 8 MP portrait macro lens. This set allows you to realize a zoom from 0.8x to 5x, providing flexibility when shooting different types of portraits — from wide-angle to detailed large-scale. The built-in high—speed photography feature helps you capture a moment without "blurring" - whether it's movement, facial expressions, or vivid emotions. All these tools work in conjunction with an AI system: the smartphone independently selects the best frame, focusing on the facial expression of each person in the frame.

The portrait functionality is complemented by intelligent gesture control, which allows you to interact with your smartphone without touching — this is especially convenient when shooting with a tripod or when your hands are busy. The functions of removing unnecessary objects, voice control via Yandex Alice, quick touch search, AI-based notes and Live mode for capturing dynamic scenes are also available. All this turns the smartphone into a full-fledged multimedia tool for creating and formatting content.

The technical basis of the model corresponds to its positioning: the flagship LTPO 6.78-inch OLED display with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and a density of 447 ppi provides comfort when scrolling, working with photos and videos, as well as a clear display of small details. The 5500 mAh battery supports HUAWEI SuperCharge Turbo with a power of 100 watts, which allows you to charge your device up to 100% in a matter of minutes. Reverse wired charging is also supported. The amount of memory is 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage, which is enough to store media files and work with "heavy" and resource—intensive applications.

Unlike many competitors, the nova 14 Pro does not rely on versatility — its strength lies in specialization. This is a smartphone that focuses as much as possible on creating high-quality portraits and visual content. If we talk about the disadvantages, they relate to the standard compromises for flagships: the absence of a microSD card slot, a 3.5 mm audio jack, the use of USB Type-C version 2.0 and protection from moisture only at the IP65 level. The weight is 207 g, which is above average, which can be noticeable with prolonged use with one hand and may seem heavy to some users.

What if we try the basic model?

For those who are looking for an alternative with the same key features, but at a more affordable price, there is also a basic model in the line — nova 14. This is a kind of younger brother of the older version, repeating many of the principles, but in a more restrained performance.

The Nova 14 also offers a 50 MP selfie camera with an ultra-wide viewing angle of 100°, 4K video support and XD Portrait Engine technology, has a main camera with a telephoto lens and macro optics, and supports 100W fast charging and intelligent AI-based crop functions. However, unlike the Pro, there is no dual front-facing camera, optical zoom is not implemented when taking selfies, there is no lens for ultra-realistic shooting, and high-speed front-facing photography is not supported.

The nova 14 range is available in four colors: blue crystal, pink (pro version only), white and black. The first color on the list is inspired by the beauty of glaciers and reminds us of a frosty winter day that holds the promise of spring and new life. Pink — awakens faith in the best and new hopes, in fact, it is the color of dreams.

A white smartphone is suitable for those who appreciate delicate beauty beyond time. It embodies elegance with a touch of simplicity. Black is a universal choice due to its minimalist color. Classics are always in fashion.

Thus, if it's not just shooting that's important to you, but portraits — accurate, expressive, with deep shades and lively emotions, if you want your smartphone to help you choose the best moments and be guided by movement — nova 14 Pro will be the logical choice. It doesn't strive to be everything to everyone, but it does portraits in a way that other smartphones in this segment don't yet know how to do. And this, perhaps, is his main know-how in the competitive market in the niche of "portrait" mobile gadgets.

Are there any disadvantages?

If we talk about the disadvantages, they relate to the standard compromises for flagships: the absence of a microSD card slot, a 3.5 mm audio jack, the use of USB Type-C version 2.0 and protection from moisture only at the IP65 level.

The lack of support for Google services will also be problematic for many users. This means that the standard apps — Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube and Google Play — are not available in their usual form. Yes, there are workarounds and alternative app stores, but stability and functionality remain questionable.

Moreover, the device lacks wireless charging support, which looks strange against the background of the high price category and the availability of this feature from competitors. Although wired charging is fast, the very lack of an alternative, more convenient option is a minus for those who are used to wireless docking stations or charge their phone "on the table". And, after all, there are competitors in this price segment with similar specifications, sometimes with a stronger GPU or a broader set of AI features. This definitely does not allow you to add the device to the list of products that must be purchased by gadget connoisseurs. Nevertheless, the new nova will certainly find its own consumer, who is moderately conservative, quite wealthy and appreciates high—quality photos.
