In the near future, Russians will be able to use a QR code on the Gosuslugi portal instead of a passport. The presentation of an electronic document instead of a physical one will be possible in MFCs, financial organizations, communication salons, private medical organizations, as well as in hotels. This was announced on September 30 by the executive director of the financial marketplace "Choose.<url>" Yaroslav Badzhurak.

"Currently, there is no QR code generation button in the Gosuslugi application. In the future, this functionality will be implemented through the GosDoki service within Gosuslug. Now, thanks to Gosdok, the user can save documents such as a Russian passport, driver's license, compulsory medical insurance policy, SNILS, INN and STS of their vehicles in the application," he noted.

At the moment, the information portal on electronic interaction between departments (ESCC) contains a technical description of the GosQR service, which will become a link between the user, business or the government in scenarios where a digital code is used instead of a passport.

According to Bajurak, using a QR code will be one of the available options, not a mandatory measure, but the population is likely to express willingness to accept the service. In a survey conducted two years ago, it turned out that 92% of respondents are ready to submit documents using "Public Services".

It is specified that a third of those who supported the decision expected to use digital documents for presentation in clinics or when applying for loans for small purchases. Another 16% of Russians expressed the hope that this option would allow them not to take their passport with them to purchase alcohol and tobacco products.

On September 22, the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation reported on the possible confirmation of the identity of Russians using a QR code in stores, cinemas and museums. It was noted that it is planned to expand the use of digital documents, including financial market organizations and MFCs for obtaining public services.

Later, on September 23, Anton Tkachev, first deputy head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications, told Izvestia that the lower house of parliament was already considering initiatives to expand the use of electronic documents, including digital student ID cards, passports and driver's licenses. He called convenience and increased confidentiality the main advantage of such documents.
