They shot it at the box office: the film "August" based on Bogomolov's novel became the leader of the rental
The mass audience returned to the cinema — cinema attendance increased significantly last weekend. The best news of the weekend was the military thriller "August" with Sergey Bezrukov. According to the EAIS, he earned 250 million rubles in the first days at the box office, displacing Luc Besson's Dracula to the second line. Below are "The Long Walk" by Stephen King and the main "old man" of the rating — "To Grandpa's Village" with Yuri Stoyanov. About the results of the domestic film distribution last weekend — in the material of Izvestia.
"August" displaced "Dracula" at the box office
The cold weather and the new high-profile release brought the mass audience back to Russian cinemas, which yearned for full houses during the traditional summer lull. Last weekend showed dynamics from 1.1 million people a week earlier to 1.4 million. The best novelty was the military thriller "August" based on the novel by Vladimir Bogomolov "In August forty-fourth" ("The Moment of Truth"). This is a collaboration between directors Nikita Vysotsky and Ilya Lebedev, who have assembled a solid cast in their film adaptation.
— The war thriller "August", which brought together Bezrukov, Kologrivy and Tabakov in the cast, showed a decent result in the first weekend and became the film that, after four months of absence of blockbusters, brought the mass audience back to the cinema. For a couple of weeks, the film will have no serious competitors and it will be able to multiply the box office. Besides, it's already obvious that the painting has a great sundress. An important role was played by a wide advertising campaign both on TV and in digital. TV, despite skeptics, continues to be a powerful advertising platform," Olga Zinyakova, president of the KARO cinema chain, said in an interview with Izvestia.
In its first weekend at the box office, the film earned 251 million rubles. Along with the financial success of the project, there is another reason for pride — this is a unique portrait of its audience, says Maria Shcherbal, CEO of the Wanta Group research company.
— The film has demonstrated a rare ability for modern rental to attract 35+ viewers — this group makes up 29% of the audience, and it is among them that one in three (32%) belongs to the category of those who rarely go (visits the cinema less than once every six months). In general, there are 17% of such viewers in the halls of "August", which is significantly higher than the average figures. This success is attributed to a strong family core.: 14% of the audience came to the film with their parents, grandparents, or other adult relatives — this is almost three times higher than the average rental values this weekend, the expert cites the data.
Shcherbal concluded that the key driver, in addition to the cast, was the topical patriotic theme. Luc Besson's "Dracula" took the second place. The French director's melodrama recorded two times less — 137 million rubles, but won in another way: it showed the highest average occupancy of the hall: 25 people per session, while "August" had 17.
— Luc Besson's "Dracula" is a large—scale costume drama, a bright and effective film that you want to watch on the big screen. The film about the eternal love of a vampire received a good sundress and, given the high operating time, will continue to hold a leading position at the box office. In addition, this film is ideal for a female audience," explains Olga Zinyakova.
Cinema attendance will continue to grow
The Stephen King thriller "The Long Walk" closes the top 3 of the domestic box office. At the end of the weekend, the tape earned another 63 million rubles. The plot tells about an annual competition, the participants of which must go at a certain speed in order to win a large sum in the final. Only one will reach the finish line.
The main "old man" of the rating continues to collect the box office — the comedy "To the village of Grandpa" with Yuri Stoyanov. The film has been in the domestic box office for three and a half months. At the end of the weekend, he closes the top 10 of the box office with 5.6 million rubles. The total cash register is about 850 million rubles. According to experts, cinema attendance will continue to grow.
— Cinema attendance traditionally grows in the autumn period and will reach its peak by the New Year's Eve battle. In the fall, the rental will be filled with a variety of projects for every taste — in addition to the already mentioned releases, viewers will see "Alice in Wonderland", animation "Finnik 2", "Gorynych", a full-length film based on the TV series "Daddy's Daughters" and much more, concluded Olga Zinyakova.
The next big releases are "(Non)artificial Intelligence", directed by Alexey Chadov, and "The First on Olympus" with Gleb Kalyuzhny, who is currently serving in the army.
