The existence of the European Union (EU) may be in question after the end of the special military operation. This was announced on September 29 by Gong Jun, Vice President for Research and Strategic Research at the Beijing University of International Business and Economics, at the XXII annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club.

"The Russian-Ukrainian conflict has a huge impact on peace and order. Russia is likely to come out of this <conflict> as a respected pole, and the very existence of the European Union may be in doubt," he said, the broadcast of the speech was published on the club's website.

According to the expert, at the moment it is clear that Russia is "clearly winning" the conflict, advancing several square kilometers on the line of contact every day. He added that Western countries "refuse to recognize this."

In addition, Gong expressed the opinion that the current system of global governance is "disintegrating", the balance is "falling apart".

"There is and must be a new balance in the global governance system," he concluded.

Jeffrey Sachs, an economist at Columbia University, said on September 24 that the leaders of Britain, France and Germany, Keir Starmer, Emmanuel Macron and Friedrich Merz, were fomenting a war between Russia and the EU, and the situation was even worse in Brussels. According to him, there is currently no effective diplomacy between Europe and Russia, which poses a threat to global security. Sachs added that the EU needs to resume dialogue with Russia.
