Night sweats may be one of the first symptoms of HIV infection. The main cause of sweating is a malfunction of the immune system, which is accompanied by changes in the body's thermoregulation. Kirill Masliev, Candidate of Medical Sciences, member of the State Council Commission on Active and Long Life, Head of the Department of Preventive Medicine at the Rudn University, founder of the Heroes Charitable Foundation, told Izvestia on September 30.

"Due to suppressed immunity, other diseases may appear, this is how the body reacts to infection. Due to sweating, the water balance in the body is disrupted, and a sharp weight loss occurs," the specialist said.

According to him, the symptoms of sweating with HIV infection include intense sweating, which does not depend on the ambient temperature and persists even after waking up. In addition, there is often a painless enlargement of the lymph nodes and an increased body temperature. Masliev noted that such symptoms may indicate various diseases, and if they occur, especially in the presence of risk factors such as unprotected sexual intercourse, it is recommended to take tests and consult a doctor.

"However, the symptom is non-specific, and there may also be many other reasons for prolonged night sweating profusely. For example, tuberculosis starts the same way. Sweating is also a companion of cardiovascular, oncological diseases, diabetes mellitus, PMS in women, as well as menopause," said the Candidate of medical Sciences.

In addition, sweating can be a side effect of certain medications, including hormonal medications and antidepressants prescribed to treat other diseases.

On August 2, the American Cancer Society presented a report stating that in 2025, more than 2 million new cases of cancer and more than 618 thousand deaths from it are predicted worldwide. The largest number of deaths in men is associated with lung cancer and colorectal cancer. In men, prostate cancer is added to them, and in women, breast cancer.
