- Dyumin announced an increase in the number of Russian citizens with the status of Defender of the Fatherland
The number of Russian citizens with the status of "defender of the Fatherland" will increase many times in the near future. This was announced on September 29 by Assistant to the President of Russia, Secretary of the State Council Alexei Dyumin at a meeting of the State Council of the Russian Federation Commission on support for participants in a special military operation (SVO).
"You and I must understand that after a certain time, the category of citizens we are talking about today — the defenders of our Fatherland — will increase many times," Dyumin said.
According to him, it is necessary to minimize the risks of issues that require settlement on this topic. He noted that for this purpose it is important to take into account the successful experience of some regions in the work.
Russian President Vladimir Putin noted on September 10 that attention to the veteran of a special military operation (SVO) is not a fashion, but a tribute from the state. He noted that attention to veterans should be on an ongoing basis, as these are people who stood up for the defense of their Homeland.
On August 28, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced that the Russian government had prepared a draft on granting veteran status to volunteers who had signed an agreement with the Russian Ministry of Defense from October 2022 to September 2023, and appropriate social guarantees had also been provided. Now each of them will have the opportunity to apply for the status of a combat veteran or disabled person.
