Western expert and political communities have different assessments of the prospects for the continuation of the Ukrainian conflict. Ivan Skorikov, a political scientist and head of the Ukraine department at the Institute of CIS Countries, told Izvestia on September 29.

According to him, some analysts and politicians are ready to support the conflict indefinitely, hoping for Russia's internal problems or the alleged possible effect of sanctions, while more rational experts understand that prolonging it works against Ukraine and Western countries.

"There are hawks who are ready to fight to the last Ukrainian for as long as they want. And there are generally rational experts and journalists who understand that the longer it takes, the worse the situation in Ukraine will be," the political scientist said.

Skorikov noted that the West's attempts to demonize Russia and isolate it through sanctions did not bring the expected result. The Russian economy has successfully adapted to external pressure, and the country's cultural and political influence continues to grow. He cited the BRICS and SCO summits as examples, where Russia demonstrated the strengthening of its international weight.

"Russia trades well with partners in the Global South, with India, China, and other countries. The Russian economy has withstood this pressure. Russian culture has withstood this attempt to abolish all Russian. And Russia's political weight, of course, has grown," Skorikov said.

According to the expert, the current publications of the Western press are also related to the actions of the administration of US President Donald Trump, which, despite the proposed negotiating platforms, could not achieve its stated goals to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.

Skorikov stressed that the conflict turned out to be existential for both sides, and Europe without American support is not able to fully provide the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

He concluded that there are forces within the United States seeking to change the Western agenda and reduce involvement in the Ukrainian conflict, which, in his opinion, contributes to debunking the myth of an "endless conflict" until victory over Russia.

The Independent newspaper reported on September 28 that Ukraine's chances of regaining the lost territories are extremely low and that the country will not be able to return to the borders of 2022. Experts of the publication noted that, theoretically, the Ukrainian side always had the opportunity to return 13% of its territory if it followed the rules.
