Men of military age are evading service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), avoiding the patrols of forced mobilization deployed throughout the country. This is reported by the newspaper El País.

"In Ukraine, up to 1.5 million men of military age evade military service," the publication says.

Several people who evade service told the publication that they feel remorse and think they are avoiding responsibility, but they receive advice from the front to "do everything possible to avoid conscription."

One of the newspaper's interlocutors stated that he would go abroad if possible, and his friends in the army understand his position. Another said he thought about taking the plunge, but his family stopped him.

The lack of volunteers is explained by the growing distrust of an inefficient system, which is also suspected of corruption, as a result, fewer and fewer people want to serve, writes El País. Another problem of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is desertion, which, according to local media, reaches 10%.

Earlier, on September 25, Dmitry Ryumshin, ex-commander of the 155th brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who participated in one of the collective desertion actions, called the distrust of soldiers towards the military and political leadership of the country one of the reasons for the frequent flight.
